Repair Process
Clear & Easy Process Start to Finish
When your car has been damaged, you don't want to be in the dark. At McCarthy Collision Centers we understand and want to make sure our customers have a full understanding of our automobile repair process.
Some auto body repair shops have confusing or unclear processes. At McCarthy Collision, we are transparent: Below, we've broken down the basics of our automobile repair process, from start to finish. Never choose a shop that doesn't make their automobile repair process clear - come to McCarthy and we'll make sure you feel like a partner in the repair of your vehicle.
1: Free Estimate
Before any work can be done, we will assess the damage to your vehicle. Our staff will then give you or your insurance company a complete written estimate. This free estimate will provide us (and you) with a rundown of everything visibly damaged; however, once the disassembly process begins, hidden damage and problems may be found. If that’s the case, we will document these issues and write up and provide you with a new estimate.
2: Vehicle Disassembly
Next we have to prepare your vehicle for the appropriate auto body repairs. The damaged parts of your vehicle will be disassembled, and the original layers of paint will be removed. Again, if hidden damage is discovered, you will be contacted before we continue.
3: Order Parts
Once you agree to any vehicle repair work, and after we identify all automotive damages, we will order your replacement car parts. If at all possible, we like to use genuine auto parts and components to ensure the repairs result in a stock-quality vehicle. We will, however, discuss options with you before we place an order.
4: Body Work
At this point, we begin the structural and autobody repair process. This includes paintless dent repair , preparing and installing new panels, sanding, priming and sealing, adding corrosion protection, aligning sheet metal, and more. Our trained collision repair technicians utilize specialty equipment to measure and analyze your vehicle pre- and post-repair, which enables us to return your vehicle with manufacturer specifications.
5: Autobody Painting
We pressure-wash and chemically clean the area before prepping, sanding, priming, and sealing. This is one of the most important steps of the entire McCarthy car body repair process, as any defect or missed spot of oil can produce lackluster results. Once thoroughly cleaned, your car will be painted by our experienced professionals.
6: Reassembly
Your vehicle is almost ready for pick-up. During the reassembly process, all moldings, detail pieces, and components are put back on or in your vehicle. We then run another inspection to check for any missing nuts or bolts and to ensure everything’s within spec.
7: Road Test
Next up is a road test to identify any noises, vibrations, electrical issues, or other general problems with your car. The goal is to return your vehicle to pre-accident condition, so any new problems will be corrected. Should a problem arise later, rest assured that all work is covered by McCarthy’s Lifetime Guarantee .
8: Detailing
Before you get your vehicle, we will detail and clean up any broken glass, dust, dirt, oil, and more.
9: Pick Up
Once all the checkboxes have been ticked off, you’ll be notified that your car is available to be taken home. When you arrive at your McCarthy autobody shop, we will provide you with a detailed car repair bill, which you will pay at the time of pick-up . In some instances, your auto insurance claim will cover the expenses, though you’ll have to discuss this option with both your insurer and our Kansas City collision centers. If you’re unable to pay fully, you may have financing or payment plan options – again, speak with a member of our crew.
